I first heard about Nested Bean from a post on Facebook. It showed a video of the Nested Bean founder talking about her invention and how it was born from her own need for her newborn baby son. She noticed that her son only slept well in her arms or when she had her hand placed upon his chest. Her curiosity led her to research and later to invent the Zen Swaddle and Zen Sleep Sack.
I was astounded because I was literally watching the Facebook video and lightly pressing on and rubbing Oliver’s chest to soothe him. Which is what the Zen Sack does. The Zen Sack is just another luxurious sleep sack for babies but it includes a little egg-shaped pouch with tiny pellets inside which give a slight weight to the chest to imitate a gentle soothing touch.
The beads feel like tiny little beans and are made out of non toxic poly material. They are securely encased and will withstand your baby playing with the sack or when the sack goes through the wash.
Besides the soothing beads the sleep sack itself is just gorgeous! I have the Zen Sack Classic which is 100% Cotton. Oliver is 6 months old, weights 13 lbs and fits into the Smaller size (3-6 months). He is slightly smaller than other 6 month olds and the sleep sack is just right.
He could go up to the bigger size and it would be okay. The bigger size is for 6-12 month olds. Since some of the older babies can sleep on their tummy or back, the Zen Sack can be turned around to put the bean on the back when a baby sleeps on his tummy.
The cotton is quite luxurious, thick and soft. Made in Vietnam (not China!). The shoulder snaps feel sturdy and they are adjustable to two different lengths for a better fit and room to grow.
My favorite part of this sleep sack is the two-way zipper system.
The entire sack basically unzips flat so it’s so easy to get the baby in and out of it. The zipper has a lip on the inside so it’s comfortable for your little one because it covers the zipper on the inside.
I love this too as Oliver’s other sleep sacks always have cold zippers that touch him. The zipper also feels very high quality and durable.
The prints are so adorable too! I wanted to get more but they were sold out, hoping they restock soon! I was able to snag the Honeybear print and it’s so delicious! Little bear with a honey pot and a bee circling. Nested Bean was kind enough to offer a 15% discount to all my friends with coupon code PR-MALIBU15
I’m eyeballing the Puffin Party and Bubble Chaser prints which are penguin and crab prints. But they have one color options as well. What are you waiting for, give it a try as I am offering 15% off with coupon code PR-MALIBU15 .
The sack is machine washable and dryable.
I should also mention that they truly stand behind their product offering a 60 day money back guarantee! Also they ship FAAAAST!!!
This company is really interested in hearing feedback they are active on social media and have a lot of baby sleeping resources and they work closely with sleep experts. It truly feels like Nested Bean cares about their clients and really hope their products help babies and parents get a better nights sleep.
Quick note, the sleep sack also comes in a swaddle version for those little babies who are between the ages of Newborn to 6 months (the Zen Swaddle lasts past 3 months as it’s adjustable). There are also a few choices in fabrics depending on how warm or cool you want to keep your little one. You can get the 100% cotton the one that we have, there is a 70% Bamboo / 30% Cotton moisture wicking one for warmer days, and a poly filled one for extra warmth. Use Coupon Code PR-MALIBU15 to save 15% off your entire purchase!
We received our sleep sack about two weeks ago and have been using it for about 7 nights now. We also use it during playtime before his naps. He loves wearing it, as soon as we take his little pantaloons off and slip this on, he gets happy. He loves staring down the egg! On this occasion Oliver was wearing it while watching his favorite TV show, Little Baby Bum. He slowly slid down his Docatot until he was laying flat and out like a light!
Before we got the Nested Bean Zen Sack I used to rock him in my lap or inside the Docatot while giving him a pacifier and rubbing his chest or head until he dozed off. Sometimes I found myself sitting with him for an hour or an hour and a half. The Zen Sack is so soft and luxurious that Oliver took to it right away. He’s been consistently sleeping from midnight to about seven in the morning. A few days ago he even slept from 11 PM to just after 8 AM. That was probably the best nights sleep my husband and I got since Ollie came home! I even had dreams for the first time in 6 months. Hahaha!
I know that new mommies are so busy with everything that it can be overwhelming. I am blessed enough to be able to stay at home with Oliver so I just want to provide some information to busy moms that need a quick glance at products for their little one. For the Nested Bean Zen Sack I would give it an excellent rating because it has worked for Oliver, it definitely calms him down. Try it for yourself and save 15% OFF with Coupon Code PR-MALIBU15 and remember they have a 60 day return policy! He dozes off slowly but by himself without needing me to hold him and rub his tummy and head (event hough I sometimes enjoy doing that even if he doesn’t need me to!). He also really adores snuggling up with the sack at night and giggles when he looks at the little face on the egg. It’s so adorable!
If the weighted egg doesn’t help your baby at night, reach out to Nested Bean they may be able to make suggestions for you! I found their customer service simply amazing.
Plus to be honest, for the price it’s really an amazing sack. It’s extremely well made, soft and all the closures are durable. It’s really one of my favorite sleep sacks, I own the Woolino ones ($100.00) that we like, Aden & Anais Muslin ones ($20) that we really don’t like because the zipper on the front makes it so Oliver can twist it in such a way that it actually chokes him, the Aden & Anais Merino ($200) are also amazing but at a higher price point and finally the LilySilk ($120) which is good but only for very cold weather (we visit my husband’s family in Indiana). But Nested Bean’s version of the quilted, cold-weather type of sleep sack is quite a bit less expensive so I would highly suggest that one, especially if you only travel to colder climates. I always find myself going for the Nested Bean Zen Sack even with all the other choices, all of them four or more times as expensive, because it’s just so nice and versatile for all weather, it washes beautifully without any extra instructions. Plus I really really really love that the zipper is covered up so Oliver’s little toes don’t touch it inside the sack and that it zips both ways so we can slip a clean diaper on Ollie when he’s in deep sleep.
Highly recommend it! Give Nested Bean Zen Sack (or Swaddle) a try!
