A stinky doggie, a drooly five month old baby on a brand new, luxurious rug? YES! The Lorena Canals rugs are famous for being machine washable (as are their cushions which are next on my to buy list). Not only machine washable but all of them are designed to fit in a standard washer and a standard dryer.
I was on the hunt for a beautiful sophisticated rug for Oliver’s nursery but when the Hippy Yellow rug arrived I knew I had to have it in the master bedroom (to match my curtains!).
These gorgeous and easy to take care of rugs gained a big celebrity following including Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian (amongst others). What’s good enough for North West is surely good enough for our little Oliver! These gorgeous rugs were also picked by Vogue as a top baby product for celebrity nurseries. I definitely see all the trendsetters putting these exclusive rugs in their babies’ nurseries.
Rest assured that Lorena Canals rugs are totally eco friendly and safe for your little one to crawl around on and enjoy play time and tummy time on. All of their rugs are certified to be safe for kids. So I feel comfortable putting Oliver on the rug with me so we can spend time together. Unlike most carpeting and rugs, the Lorena Canals rugs do not contain VOCs. VOCs can cause various health problems including nausea and allergies. It accounts for that “new carpet smell” that we’re so familiar with.
Lorena Canals uses all natural dyes to color their rugs and cushions, and boy do they come in vibrant gorgeous colors!
All rugs are handmade by artisans from high quality, raw, natural materials, such as cotton.
Designed in Spain and made in India where they give back to the community. With each rug purchased, Lorena Canals provides schooling for a child who otherwise would be on the streets of India. The school provides meals and education. I just LOVE a company who gives back. It’s definitely a forward thinking and gracious attitude that more companies should adopt. Please mosey on over to Lorena Canals’ website to read more about their social mission with the Sakula project.
I love their tag line that says “When Rugs Start To Make Sense” because we have traditional rugs in the downstairs portion of our home and we always take our slippers off so we are barefoot to keep those rugs looking new. But we should ENJOY them and not only clean them and cry when we see a dirty spot. Because we know our old fashioned rugs have to be professionally cleaned.
I love the idea of LIVING in your space and not just LOOKING at it. With a machine washable rug it allows us to have FUN with Oliver and Prada! We can play with Oliver, feed him and let him do tummy time because at the end we can just throw it into the washing machine and it will come out like new. Of course you can also sweep and vacuum the rugs, they don’t HAVE to be machine washed.
When I first laid the rug down in the bedroom, Prada, our 13 year old pomeranian, sauntered into the room and spun around in circles then plopped down as if the rug has been laid out just for her (it wasn’t). But if Prada approves of it, it must be soft because she only likes plush cotton throws in her doggy bed.
I laid Oliver down on the rug and he started pulling at it and caressing it. The rug is extremely soft! It is easy to fold or roll up because it doesn’t have a stiff backing (if you plan on using it on your hardwood floor I suggest getting an anti-slip backing). If the rug is under a piece of furniture it should stay put without any anti slip padding.
The quality of the rug is very high and it seems like it will last forever even with Prada and Oliver rolling around on it. Prada scratched the rug to get comfortable and Ollie was pulling at the individual rug strings and they bounced right back into shape.
At a closer look you can really tell that this is a handcrafted item, each stitch each detail is done to perfection. If you have time, take a look at all the videos on the Lorena Canals website. They show how the rugs are crafted and dyed. Really amazing to see! I just LOVE how each of the rug’s plush is hand cut! The folks who create these beautiful rugs are truly artisans.
The Hippy Yellow rug features fringe and a cream zig zag pattern. The rug measures about 4′ x 5’3″ which is the perfect size for our room.
All in all I am excited to use the rug. It’s one of my favorite pieces in our master bedroom. I’m hoping to write more about it once I wash and dry it! I’m also dying to get another rug for Oliver’s room so hopefully I will post about that soon! So stay tuned.
