“I’m coming home” the iPhone chimed with a text from my husband. Finally! He was coming home from shopping for a gift for a friend’s upcoming baby shower. Since baby Oliver was fast asleep, we decided to split up, I stay home and my husband went off shopping. Oh how life has changed!
I would have loved to go shopping a few months ago but with a 5 month old baby at home I’d rather stay home while hubby is away and baby is sleeping so I can do chores – yes, do CHORES. Finally, I can catch up on piles of laundry and dishes. But of course as soon as I get started I hear Oliver crying. No, I take that back, as soon as I am DONE cleaning and sit down to catch up on Instagram, that’s when Oliver wakes up.
But, finally Brian’s coming home! That means we can go hiking with Oliver in his new LILLEbaby Complete Baby Carrier! Woot Woot! So excited. Now to wake the little booger up to be changed and fed before we leave. Nothing is worse than a poopy, hungry baby when you’re out in the wilderness.
The LILLEbaby carrier comes with a beautiful instruction manual that gives detailed color photographs on how to wear your baby according to the baby’s size and age. But if you need more instruction you can also check out LILLEbaby’s videos.
I really wanted to make a note to mention that the first time we put Oliver in the carrier we did it incorrectly! We could tell because his legs seemed uncomfortably spread out. So we double checked the instructional video on LILLEbaby’s website and sure enough the problem was that we didn’t fold the seat in the narrow position. When it arrives at your doorstep, the carrier comes in the wide seat position, so if your baby is tiny or not six months old yet, you have to adjust it to the narrow position. The narrow seat is also used when the baby is carried face forward.
Just wanted to mention this as it’s SO important, while baby wearing, that the baby and the parent are comfortable. I spoke with a LILLEbaby rep and she gave me a lot of excellent pointers, one of my favorite being that a clue as to if you are wearing the carrier correctly is that the baby is in a “Visible and Kissable” position. How cute!
The LILLEbaby Complete 6-in-1 is such a beautiful, luxurious carrier. The microsuede fabric really takes it up a notch and the fact that no infant insert is needed is the bees knees. Living in Southern California, it gets to be 100 degrees so nothing is more uncomfortable for little Oliver than a bulky thick infant insert. And to be honest, it’s uncomfortable for mommy and daddy too!
As soon as Daddy got home we packed up the babe and the LILLEbaby carrier and off we went. I just love taking the carrier instead of the stroller. The carrier weights practically nothing and can be folded up to fit anywhere, even in my diaper bag! I’m petite so taking the stroller is a lot of hard work. Folding and unfolding is such a hassle and not to mention lifting the stroller up to the back of the SUV, that’s a workout in itself. That’s why the carrier is such a convenience, just throw it in the back of your car or SUV and off you go.
We arrived at the park just when the soccer team was ending their practice so the park was quite empty and quite pleasant. The only thing was that the sun disappeared behind a big cloud and the temperature dropped a few degrees. So much for vibrant bright photos!
But we had a blast anyways.
Oliver enjoyed the scenery, it was the first time in this park for him without his stroller so we were able to go down near the beautiful prickly pears, fields and ocean.
Oliver seemed quite comfortable. He squirmed a little bit because we made him wear a hat to protect his little noggin. But after a little bit he calmed down and just peeked out at the scenery.
Across the street from the park is Pepperdine University! What a gorgeous campus, those lucky students!
We moseyed over to the telescopes and peeked out! Oliver wasn’t that interested but hopefully when he gets older we can come back and look out into the ocean and see the whales!
My husband commented how great it was to be “hands free” and be able to grab the telescope to enjoy the view!
Oliver was pretty much asleep by then.
We woke him up as we descended down towards the trails. A wide, dirt path lead us through the park with the ocean to our left.
My husband commented how lightweight the LILLEbaby carrier felt! We were used to having a carrier with an insert, which weighted even more than the carrier itself! Really GENIUS that there is no insert. Such a small change that makes a world of difference.
My husband was also stretching and bending comfortably and he was in LOVE with the lumbar support! Sure makes climbing up hills or descending downhill a lot easier.
Oliver is getting bigger and heavier so the nice, super padded shoulder straps are comfortable. The LILLEbaby‘s straps are very adjustable to fit your body exactly. The fact that you can roll up the straps into these little elastic hammocks proves that LILLEbaby truly thought of EVERYTHING when designing this carrier. No more snake straps hanging all over as I am trying to hike! Trust me those have gotten tangled up in some gnarly weeds before with my other carriers.
You can’t really see it in these photos but the LILLEbaby comes with a little attached canopy or hood that you can snap into place to keep the sun off the babe. That’s such a great feature I wish I showcased but Oliver had his hat and we forgot to use it. Next time!
Besides being totally practical, the LILLEbaby Embossed collection looks and feels so luxurious. The ultra soft, light and highly breathable microcloth is combined with embossed detail. There is a cozy suedecloth at the top (the tan portion), that feels very upscale and buttery soft. The entire carrier is quite compact and does not have much padding which makes it ultra lightweight and comfortable. This one definitely kept Oliver’s temperature pretty cool. Typically he runs very warm and this time, when we took him out, he felt comfortable! Which is a huge plus in our book.
The fact that the seat can be narrow or wide is also brilliant! Oliver is very tiny for his age so it’s very hard to have him be comfortable in a carrier but this one takes the cake for sure.
Another great thing is that this is a be all to end all carrier. It is the only carrier you will need from a newborn to toddler, from 7 lbs to 45 lbs.
When Oliver is 45 lbs I’m pretty sure only my husband will be carrying him because whew…… I’m exhausted just lugging him around now and he’s only 11 lbs!
The LILLEbaby Complete is a 6-in-1 carrier which means it can be used for newborns, infants, face out, toddler, on your hip or on your back. All these positions can be accomplished with a few quick switcharoos of the various snaps and straps. So simple! I dare say that it’s even simpler than folding and unfolding our stroller!
I really can’t say enough good things about this carrier! I think this should be on the wishlist of all new parents wether you live in the city or in the middle of nowhere.
I just love how baby wearing allows us to share the beautiful natural wonders of the world with Oliver. We can go anywhere even where the stroller cannot. But if you do live in the city, baby carrying is great too, leaves your hands free to grab your Starbucks! Which is a natural wonder as well!
