But, since I am a new mommy I figured I should try to get in the spirit. Only about 3 years ago did I carve my first pumpkin so I’m somewhat of a Halloween virgin. I should mention that I was not born in the United States so it’s a foreign concept to me. Even though nowadays Halloween is celebrated in Poland.
I decided to get a couple little costumes for Oliver, starting with this Ice Cream cone costume that I purchased on Jet.com. It only cost about $12 (regular price $32) so I couldn’t say “No”. But maybe I should have…
Jet.com is a great website (I returned the costume for a full refund with FREE return shipping) but the costume was HORRIBLE. The fabric was so stiff and unpleasant to the touch that I didn’t want to put Oliver in it, I dressed him in a long sleeve onesie before putting him inside the ice cream costume. The front closure was velcro and sewn crookedly. The photo on the packaging made it look super cute but in reality the design was different than advertised.
But, I was determined to get at least one or two photos for Oliver’s first Halloween. I decided to use his Cuddle + Kind reindeer because they have ice cream sweaters to continue the ice cream theme.
As you can see, Oliver was NOT having it. For the first 40 photos he was just laying there, very still, almost like a puppy whose owner dressed it in people clothes. That was okay but if only he would smile. My mom and I went absolutely nuts making faces and funny noises and dancing around like crazy people just to make him crack a smile. I think he took pity on us and gave us a half smile as a way to make us stop.
We actually broke a sweat trying to get him to smile! A couple minutes later, he started to flail, scream, kick and roll until he burst out of the costume. I seriously thought this would make him start walking so he could run away! Mind you, the velcro being crooked and barely sewn on didn’t stand a chance against Oliver’s kicks.
Yes, I realize I only paid $12 but honestly I expected something a tad better, especially since the photo on the website makes it look kinda cute! It looks almost stuffed with something, like a sleeping bag or a sleep sack but in reality it was very flat, I seriously can’t even tell it’s an ice cream cone.
Epic Halloween photo fail. But, on a brighter note, Oliver really did enjoy playing with his Cuddle + Kind reindeer afterwards AND he got a lot of hugs and kisses and “I’m Sorries” from Babcia (Grandma in Polish) for the “abuse”. So he was back to his giggly self!
This is a public apology to Oliver, Mommy is sorry she put you in this awful costume. May Halloween 2018 be much much better!
